Coromandel Peninsula road trip
Last week I went on my first, and hopefully not the last, road trip around New Zealand. The Coromandel Peninsula was the destination and we were determined to hit and soak up as many spots in the short time we had. These destinations were mostly beach related as we had, sorry to rub it in UK, fantastic weather.
One of these was Whangamata beach (pronounced fan-ga-ma-ta)
Where: 56km from Thames, 156km from Auckland
Best for: Sunbathing, messing around in the water
Famous for: Ella Williams, Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Junior Champion 2013
We didn’t see any great surf on the day we stopped in Whangamata for a couple of hours, but the water was pleasant enough and the beach very appealing to the eyes.
It was perfect for a jumping picture, although the soft sand on top was not an easy launch platform.
And now a photo to make you jealous of how much I am browning off out in the New Zealand sun:
We spent an hour or so sat out on Whangamata beach watching the world go by and cursing at clouds when them came over for robbing us of the sun. We also had a quick bite to eat in the town centre, which was attractively laid out and well decorated with plants.
