Sino-Sunday #25

In this photo series, I present snapshots of experiences from my two years in China, including many previously unpublished photos.
On a Sunday, of course.

#25 – 3rd February 2012

It was almost time for me to leave Ordos. I was enjoying the last couple of weeks of living in the city as I didn’t have to work due to the fact that I’d worked so much in January. I had a big two week trip planned with visits to Xi’an and Beijing but before I left I welcomed in the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon, my year.

Ordos was full of wonderful lanterns around this time. I wandered the many squares to take photos of them and I also went out at night to see them fully aglow too, however as it was too cold to stay out long, it was easier to get photographs in the day with the added bonus of having a little sun to warm me.

The reason I love this picture so much is the contrast of colour from the dragons to the tower blocks being built behind and then the beautiful blue sky to top it all off. You can probably tell that where the dragons are standing is usually water, but they drained it for the winter as to not create any dangerous ice in the square.
