I began blogging way back during sixth form at school. It was only a little one on Blogger, and no-one but close friends ever read it. I continued this on and off throughout university, but nothing on there was ever of the greatest of value to anyone but me. It was more like a diary that I could type, than one I had to write by hand, but also an often neglected one.
When I decided to head to China, however, I knew that starting a new blog was the only option. I wanted to keep track of what I did out here not only for me, but friends and family back home, and with the size limit on email attachments and photos, a blog was the best place to put them (other than Facebook, but nobody looks at other people’s photos on Facebook now!)
I started out with a free WordPress.com website, which did me fine until I realised that I wanted to get a lot more out of it. I want to be taken seriously as a writer and a teacher, and putting a lot of effort and a little money into this blog should definitely do that. So since the end of June 2012 I have moved from WordPress.com to WordPress.org and have now bought hosting with Hostgator, a theme and my own domain name.
However, I would not have been able to do this by myself. I mentioned that I was fortunate enough to connect with Agness first, and then Cez, the latter who has helped me no end with the setting up of this new improved blog of mine.
I highly recommend Cez if you’re looking to improve your website. He helped me move from wordpress.com to .org and it has been so easy to work with him. If when you read about hosting and themes and domain names and have no idea what this all means, then he’s the man for the job!
He answers all my questions and even when I’m having a bad day, don’t understand anything and fire him off frustrated emails, he responds calmly and in a very helpful manner. He explains things really clearly via email, which is handy. I’m not computer illiterate, but there’s still a lot of things I don’t know, especially about the web and he is always there when a Google search doesn’t quite get the result you want, or you just want to confirm something.
Despite his travelling, he responds to my queries very promptly and lets me know if he’s going to be out of contact for a while.
He’s supported me not only with the redevelopment of how my site looks, but also how it works in the background. I am now more aware of how and when I get traffic, which in the long run is very important when running a blog!
The time that Cez has spent helping me to improve my website has meant that I have had more time to update and increase the content, which is fantastic. I can only imagine where I would be now if I hadn’t had his help: my blog would not have been updated and I would be crying in a corner somewhere!
I’m working hard to understand more about my blog and how it works, but having Cez there to help is really comforting, especially if I ever stupidly do something and the whole blog goes wrong!
